MORGANTOWN, WV. — Over the course of a five-game series against draft-eligible competition, the Canadian Junior National Team wrapped up its MLB Draft League Series with a string of competitive performances that reflected both promise and progress.
The Juniors finished the tour with a 2–2–1 record, marked by a pair of comeback wins, a dramatic late-inning tie, and a collection of standout individual efforts that highlight the depth and development within the group.
Position players led the way with consistent offensive pressure, headlined by the top-of-the-order trio of Elliot Lascelles (Toronto, ON), Robert Omidi (Mississauga, ON), and Tim Piasentin (Coquitlam, BC). Lascelles set the tone with elite baserunning, racking up seven stolen bases and five runs scored across the series, including a leadoff triple and a steal of home. Omidi finished the series 7-for-18 (.389) with eight RBIs, consistently delivering in key moments. Piasentin was a steady force in the heart of the order, batting .333 (6-for-18) with four runs scored, a double, and a stolen base.
Easton Kitura (Spruce Grove, AB) showcased his versatility posting a .500 average in the series, collecting clutch hits, scoring four runs, and stealing two bases—including a dramatic steal of home—while Justin Rompré (Sainte-Anne-De-La-Perade, QC), Jordan Jacob (Maple, ON) and Félix Gosselin (Drummondville, QC) added timely power in a Canadian lineup that saw production from top to bottom.
Behind the plate, Taye Thierman (Calgary, AB) and Evan York (Waterloo, ON) managed a rotating pitching staff and contributed offensively, with York connecting for his first home run in the red and white.
On the mound, Sean Duncan (Port Coquitlam, BC) set the tone early with a pair of strong starts, striking out eight over two outings and allowing just one earned run. Nick Halcovitch (Waterdown, ON) was a reliable arm out of the ‘pen, averaging a strikeout per inning across 5.1 frames. Adyn Schell (Toronto, ON) and Max Poirier (Nanaimo, BC) combined for four key scoreless innings in relief during a pivotal comeback win. The Canadians also benefited from solid starts by Mathis McKenna (Rigaud, QC) and Shane Brinham (North Vancouver, BC).
The week also provided a valuable opportunity for athletes to face adversity—weather delays, late-inning pressure, and elite-level opposition all played a role in preparing the group for the next stage of their young baseball careers.
Tim Piasentin and Will Hynes (Mississauga, ON) will continue to attract attention ahead of the 2025 MLB Draft, having both earned invitations to the 2025 MLB Draft Combine, taking place June 17–21 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Up next, the Junior National Team will shift gears and begin preparations for its Fall Instructional League Camp, expected to be held this October in the Dominican Republic.
